I've traveled quite a bit internationally for pleasure but I've always gone birding on my own. I have a few days in Thailand but not enough time for a formal 4 day or longer birding tour. I'll be in a small town not far from Bung Borapet in the central valley. Wondering if anyone has used Birding Pal or a similar option for finding a local bird guide in an out-of-the-way rural town? Birding Pal supposedly vets the members but I'm still concerned about safety when I'll have thousand of dollars of equipment with me. I'm hoping for someone who's pretty knowledgeable about the local birds and can help me find a few of the rarer ones. This'll be my seventh trip to Thailand so I'm familiar with the common Thai birds. I'd also like to hear about your positive and negative experiences with local guides (as opposed to the big, online, bird tour providers).
