I plan to get my wife a rather higher end laptop. My biggest fear is that something will break after warranty. For example, in the past year or so, 3 of the phones have developed motherboard errors. She also wants a laptop, which is more difficult to repair. I am less worry that the. laptop will be dropped but that it will developed a fault that cannot be fixed manuall (failed storage can usually be replaced for example). What are my options?
I am also curious to know if anyone have experience with laptop repair shops fixing things like dead batteries or broken LCD screens.
Thanks
- Credit Card - Some credit card add about a year to the warranty. However, I don't know how well typical claim gets processed.
- Manufacturer Extended Warranties - can extend to about 3 years. However most manufacturers seems to exclude batteries, though those are probably the easiest to replace.
- Store Warranty - Best Buy seems to offer warranty that also covers battery and even accident drops, but the plan is double that of the manufacturer. Looks like the plan also reinburst you if it cannot be repaired.
