My wife and I have signed up for a two week "Road Scholar" trip to Vietnam in February 2025.
While I'm looking forward to this trip (we've enjoyed a couple of RS trips recently), I'm not looking forward to the 20+ flight time, and time zone changes. I'm 73, and it really bothers my back to sit in an airline seat for many hours. I'm almost certainly going to fly business class, damn the cost. Didn't someone here say, "fly first class or your kids will"? Yes, it's going to cost a lot to do this - $10,000+ each, but this is what I've saved and invested for.
That said, I'm at a loss as to how to organize this flight - we could fly west, via Hawaii or Hong Kong. Or, we could actually fly east, via a European city, although that adds a bit of time to the trip. Any advice would be appreciated.
The second issue is the change in time zones. Vietnam is 11 hours ahead of Boston. Frankly, I suffer just flying to locations in Europe that are 5 or 6 hours ahead of Boston. I'm not looking forward to the time change in Viet Nam, and I'm afraid I'll be a zombie there. This trip is long enough for me as it is, but we could add a day or two stop-over on the way to VN (less concerned about the return trip). Is it worth it to do that, or should we just bite the bullet, get it over with and fly directly to Ho Chi Minh City?
Thanks in advance! Small Law
