Personal Finance (Not Investing) • BofA Preferred Rewards/Premium Rewards or Chase Sapphire Preferred?

Long time reader, and have gotten lots of great tips from this site.

I'm trying to decide between the BofA preferred rewards card with platinum honors (so 2.65% on everything and 3.5% on travel/dining) or Chase Sapphire Preferred. A lot of people seem to love the BofA program on here, but it would be a hassle to add yet another banking relationship and move things over.

I like Chase for banking. Transfers are quick, the technology is nice, and I keep enough ETFs at JP Morgan to qualify for Sapphire checking, so we don't pay any fees. But I don't get any credit card benefits.

I'm considering a move to Merrill for the preferred rewards program. I could probably net about $1k more a year in cash back (based on last year's spend) vs. the Chase Sapphire card. But I'd lose the travel insurance, rental car coverage, and ease of banking with Chase. I'd just get the Premium Rewards card at BofA (not interested in having multiple cards).

For those who have decided between these two programs, which do you prefer and why? Is BofA as horrible as everyone makes it sound? Is the juice worth the squeeze to move things over to Merrill/BofA?
