Personal Investments • Approximating total stock market with three funds: regrets?

Hi all,

First of all, thank you in advance for reading and advising.

My first supposedly Boglehead move was to slice up the total US market into big, mid, and small cap mutual funds (and also have some international exposure excluding emerging markets). I had intended to tilt a bit to non-big caps.

I am now potentially regretting this choice to slice up as I realize that I do not care to try and figure out whether my portfolio should be tilted more in specific segments of the market. I have better things to do with my time and limited mental energies.

My queries are:

Will I not need to re-balance among the three US funds if I want it to continue to track the total market? If I must, then I am exposing myself to unnecessary tax liability that I could have simply avoided by going for a total market fund?

Given that I can easily access a total stock market ETF or MF for all my accounts, should I move things over into that?

I am of course worried about tax liabilities I will undergo just to make something simpler now. But perhaps in the long run, this is what I should do?

If I should indeed move things into a total market fund, is it possibly better to wait for a market correction/reversion to the mean to do so? (Implies timing the market, I know...)
