My MIL is turning 80 and is starting to bring us (mostly my wife) into some of her financial info. My wife has power of attorney , but we have no intention of taking over with the current state of things. MIL is not asking for help, just opening the kimono a little, and in the process asked me what I thought of her investments (but I know she loves her ad is or, he's such a nice guy, and I wasn't going to fall into the trap of criticizing anything.
She doesn't know her AA, nor did anybody the documents she has handy seem to have enough info to determine it. Mostly was she shared was some monthly statement showing what the advisor bought in her "savings" (her word)
it looks like she is primarily invested in:
PIMIX: PIMCO Income Fund Institutional Class (ER=0.62% no load)
GFAFX: American Funds The Growth Fund of America® Class F-1 (ER=0.67% no load)
EGFIX: Edgewood Growth Fund Class Institutional (ER=1% no load)
I know that lots of people like PIMIX, it's riskier than something like BND so slightly better returns (after ER)
My MIL says Dave Ramsey recommends American Funds, so they must be good
again riskier than VTI, more like VIGAX so higher returns.over the last 10 years (overall great market).
Anyway, even after ER it seems those funds are not "terrible"? She pays the advisor 1% which is really the bigger problem.
Thoughts? What would an equivalent VG portfolio look like?
